B team v Wyresdale (A)
Wyresdale 1 Saints 3. The saints travelled over to Bolton to take on their main challengers for the title. Having won the home game the saints travelled to Bolton full of confidence.
We started brightly and it wasn’t long before the instrumental Barlow assisted McKenzie to make it 1-0 to the saints. After a surging run from Ashurst and a perfectly timed pass McKenzie then found the top right hand corner from 25 yards. Hartley and skipper Howarth completely bossed the midfield giving the Wyresdale players no time at all on the ball. Hall was continually a threat on wing and was Wyresdale biggest headache for long periods of the game. Green constantly played through the Wyresdale midfield and attacked at every opportunity Slack marshalled the back 3 with a commanding presence winning just about every Ariel dual he contested. Hillen continued to make a postive impression within the team and his defending was irreplaceable today.
Burke was at the heart of everything the saints did this afternoon and he got a well deserved goal for efforts finishing neatly from Just inside the box. A nasty injury to our skipper Howarth saw him helped off the pitch and replaced by coiciedo who unfortunately was also injured shortly after his introduction. Azhar then came off the bench and his hold up play helped us see the game without much problem. Wyresdale did get one back with almost the last kick of the game but they had struggled to trouble the faultless Johnson and with mackie limiting the Wyresdale players to go either backwards or shoot from distance the saints saw out a victory to continue their 100% start the season
Goals: McKenzie x 2 & Burke
MOTM: Riley hall
Most importantly we would like to wish our captain Alex Howarth a speedy recovery from his injury today.
