1st vs Burnley United
The first team fell to a 2-1 defeat against a good Burnley United in the season opener.
A cagey affair saw not much action infront of goal in the first half, with both teams battling hard and playing some good football. The Saints defence was solid and the entire team worked extremely hard to go into the half level.
The second half saw more action with the Saints taking a deserved 1-0 lead thanks to a L. Neal poachers goal from T. Beal’s headed effort onto the crossbar.
From then the game got scrappy which played into Burnley’s hands, as they pressed on and scored a peach to level.
Shortly after a lapse defensively saw us concede again with a poor goal which ultimately decided the game.
Clements dominated from then on and prodded for the equaliser, with solid defending from Burnley with backs against the wall, it was all Saints but we couldn’t equalise.
Overall a good performance, lots to take from it against a title contender, and areas to improve.
MOTM- L. Neal with an energetic performance up front, didn’t stop running and got a deserved goal.
